Project Overview: Propane Tank Surface Preparation and Coating Application

BEFORE

AFTER
We opted to use Si-COAT® 579 CM™ due to its minimal surface preparation requirements, which removes the necessity for abrasive blasting or profiling. This choice significantly speeds up the application process and reduces labor needs. Additionally, it is highly effective in preventing corrosion and halting rust progression, guaranteeing long-lasting protection. By utilizing the Si-COAT® CM™ Series, we are able to lower maintenance costs and extend the tank's lifespan, ensuring enduring reliability and performance.
For the surface preparation, we successfully utilized high-pressure water cleaning with a minimum of 5,000 psi and rotating nozzles. This process effectively removed all loose paint and rust, bringing the surface back to intact coatings and substrate. Our team ensured that the surface was thoroughly cleaned of all contaminants, salts, grease, and debris, providing an optimal foundation for the coating application. Compressed air was used to meticulously blow down the surface, ensuring it was clean and dry before the painting process began.
In the coating application phase, a full coat of Si-Coat 579 was applied uniformly across the tank at a dry film thickness of 6-7 mils. This initial layer created a robust base for enhanced protection. We then applied a second full coat of Si-Coat 579, also at 6-7 mils dft. This additional layer ensured maximum durability and coverage, providing a smooth, resilient finish.
